1964 Set List

That's quite an eclectic repertoire!

What surprises me about that set list is so many old songs from the 40's and 50's played by a band of young kids in 1964. The bands I was in in those days played current Top 40.

I can see that the trumpet player isn't the same guy who was in our band, but they sure look similar.

The bass parts were handled by the trombone player and pianist. We had a dedicated bass player the following year. Every year we had to fill in spots vacated by graduation; two alternatives at graduation were college or Vietnam. Either way left a vacancy in the band.

While you play one song the leader reads the crowd and picks the next tune. Calls it and you GO.
Haha, we still do it that way. Actually this looks like a list of all their tunes rather than a specific gig set list.

Exactly. In this case it was the piano player/BL. He was one helluva musician. Passed away this year.

I can; I like to use longhand to mystify Millennials. I cannot IMAGINE having to laboriously print every single detached letter, all my life. What a pain.

Man, I love this. Of course, I wasn't around in 1964...I didn't pop out until 1972, but that set list is epic. I am not sure I could make a set list for a cover gig without drawing from the music catalog of the 70's and 80's.

I was 16 in October of 1964 and had been gigging for not quite a year at that time. This thread is very nostalgic me. Sure wish I'd had the presence of mind to save more memorabilia along the way and get a few photos. All the history from that time exists pretty much only in the recesses of my memory....which is faded by now.

WOW! Great memories. I started playing about 4 years later, and hard rock was in - Cream, Stones, etc.
