This is a rare transition 1966 Jazz that has been lovingly restored to it's original splendor!! Why refinish an old J bass you ask.....well a (insert bad word) previous owner thought it would be a good idea to refinish the bass himself with stain and a brush applied clear coat...ughhh. enough said The Candy Apple Red Nitro finish (done to exact same specs as factory 1966), the frets and the pickguard are the restoration work done by George Furlinetto of F BASS, who is one of the best in the business but I'm sure if you are a TB'er ...you already know that! The rest of the bass is all original and features: Original Rare bound & dotted fingerboard Original Rare "lollypop" tuners Original Pre - CBS pickups Original Pots dated to late 1965 Everything you would expect from a 1966 jazz! The neck feels incredible and the bass is a very comfortable 8.75 lbs I am asking $5000 Please no trade offers (tax bill put this up for sale!!)
yes, apparently Fender used to have large supplies of parts that they would draw from and that is why sometimes not all parts on the basses match the year of production. When George (furlinetto) did the work on the bass, he recognized ( based on the bobbin design or wire...not my area of expertise) that they were a pre CBS NOS set from earlier than 1966 and informed me on that. The way he described it was" they were an older set that was probably in the bottom of a big box of pickups that took a few years to use up".The pots also date earlier than the basses' production date
