197? Aria Mach 1 AE-800?

Traded my Inanez SR 305 5 string for this beauty (or so I think). Feels just like a fender Jazz! Does anybody have any info on this bass? Came with original case too. Minty all through out. Serial # seems to be from 1974 from what I can gather. Did I do good in the trade? Thoughts from the group for a neewbie?

Actually I think you have a Model 1540. The Mach 1's all had Maple Boards. I had the EXACT same bass. I bought it for $197 from a music store that was going out of business. That's what they paid for it, with case. I think you did pretty good in the trade! Play the HELL out of it!

Thanks for the info! I think I did good too! Saw the same one go for 549.00 on an eBay listing that included the hard case like mine too. That auction was from Dec.2011. Been told that the values on these are increasing ever year. Why is this? Is it because of scarcity or because of quality?

Is this an example of the lawsuit bass I read about?

I'm not sure if it's an actual lawsuit bass, but it's certainly from the lawsuit period.

The prices seem to bounce around a little, depending of course on model and condition. Some of the older SB series fetch a big price (I think).

I personally would've struggled making the trade you made unless I had another five string on hand. The Aria is missing one!:D

Law Suit Era. The "BIG LAW SUIT" was of Gibson vs Elger (Parent company of Ibanez) for the copyright infringement of their Open Book or "Mustache" headstock, as found on Les Pauls, SG's, ES-XYZ.

Here's a link to explain the ordeal...
