I just read Duff's autobio, "It's So Easy", and he stated that as soon as Guns got their first advance (for Appetite), he went out and bought some GK gear and a P-Bass Special. That's what Fender later released under his name.

Fwiw, you can buy uncut pickguard material and make your own custom model. By the sounds of things this model didn’t come with a guard though, so you missed your opportunity to fill those holes before painting.

It does not have pickgaurd holes I just thought I would like one on this bass since I will be keeping it. It's a great player.

I do as well....man you need to buy a GK 800RB (one of the early ones)....i dont own your type of bass but my 85 Peavey Foundation (J neck on a P type body and J "on Steroids" Super Ferrite pickups) just nails his tone thru my GK 800RB...classic sound for sure.

I dig white basses with black or tort guards.

This is all the bass I will ever need. I am going to go ahead and get a pickgaurd in will most likely be black. Is has been a fun weekend of topic debate time to head back to work for the week. Thanks to all that shared comments and ideas

Very nice looking bass! I've always wanted one of these.
Did it come with the EMG's? Those were not stock. Keep in mind those are likely active pickups and will need a 9V battery.

The EMG's are not OEM and there is a 9 volt battery. They are great pickups and definitely a positive addition.
