1980's Duff Mckagan jazz spiecial

I have recently acquired a 1980's Duff Mckagan Jazz spiecial. The bass had been modified by way of the input Jack being moved to the top surface of the bass. So it had 5 holes rather than 4. Being a thrifty old car painter I filled the hole and refinished the bass it came out beautiful. I am considering installing a pickgaurd on the bass but I cannot seem to find one to cover all 4 holes. Can anybody help me with this.

The "fourth hole" is the switch? It is unlikely that anybody makes a pickguard for this. If you want one, you'll likely have to cut it yourself.

The Jazz Specials never had pickguards, AFAIK.

That pickgaurd appears to be a custom job. I have NEVER seen one on a Jazz Special.
I much prefer that bass without anyway, to each his own....

That pickguard is not original. 100% sure. Look around the switch. The hole is cut so that the switch is still mounted in the wood. Also, that bass is rear-routed, and it would be top routed if it left the factory with a pickguard.

That is a custom guard, possibly to cover damage around the controls. I suggest contacting the seller to see who made it.

The bass also came with EMG's it really kicks on my 80's peavey gear.

No, his original signature model is based on the MIJ Jazz Bass Special. They existed before Duff bought one.

Yes correct but the jazz bass specials where made from 1984 -1987 in Japan. His signature model is based on that bass.

So the early Japanese j555 are sometimes called Duff Mackagans but they are not. Go figure.
