1981 G&L l2000e? Recommended strings? Recommended amp please ?

I was able to receive this wonderful instrument from another wonderful TBer. I Believe it is a late 81' but I can't find another one like it. It is a hog with a maple neck. Is there a way to tell if it is an 81' or early 82'? #b008218 . Any information about this instrument would be great.

Judging by the hex-pole pickups and black crinkle bridge/control plate, I'd say it's an '82.
Checking the G&L registry @guitarsbyleo.com and comparing serial numbers close to yours puts it around early '82.

Far as I can tell the plate is flat black with no crinkle anywhere.

Thank you very much I've also seen very crinkled paint on other basses in the same year, so I was confused as to whether there was a difference. And I was wondering if that could determine the exact date and electronic set up. This thing is a tone monster!!!

Not sure about an exact date of manufacture, but taking the neck off would give you a date on when the body/neck were made.

I am loving it. very easy to play.
Do you have a maple fretboard? I have not been able to find a hog/maple anywhere on the web. Or I would buy another one.

I have a hog/ebony L1K. Easy to pay is a good description. I've had it for over 5 years now. Traded an EBMM SR5 for it.

The wonderful person that gifted the l2k bass to me had the same bass as you and I fell in love with the ebony board (as well as the sound)but he would not part with it.
I ended up with mine.

I on the hunt for the right one however I have to wait for $. I am just getting Finnished raising my 3 children and I do not have the means to look seriously. The 2k will have to do for now.
