1983 Ibanez Musician Single pick up

Just to muddy the waters a little, Ibanez did make a bolt-on Musician. Check out this page from a Japanese 1991 catalog:

It seems the 924 and 824 had identical electronics, and the only difference is the 924 is neck-through, and the 824 is bolt-on.

Japanese-only re-issue? You just don't see any of these around.

Nice score on the single-pickup Musician, they seem rather rare, too.

Wow - that's interesting!

I think that's the catalogue for the japanese market, because there were no musician basses or guitars made for the US and europe in 1991.
I've never seen those pups on musician basses before, and the finish seems to be matte. The bridges are different, too.

Notice the 1991 catalogues for the international market:

No Ibanez Musicians in those catalogues at all.

Edit: in the japanese catalogue the MC824 has a bolt on neck.
And there is a MC824 shown with that ash stripe in the mahagony body - for a bolt on neck!
That's really crazy...

Yes, very interesting! That's almost certainly a Japan-only reissue. I've never seen or heard about it until now.



The false neck-through appearance was common, though. Vantage did it on some of their 80's basses.

NBD! Looks like she is mine. Now onto finding some tuners. I emailed Ibanez about original tuners so I don't do anymore damage to the headstock. I am posting a pic of the tuners below and would live to find an original set. ImageUploadedByTalkBass1364402535.606053.jpg

Well, the Hipshot 1/2" Ultra Lites are on there way, new set of DR Fat Beams are waiting to be strung and strap lock pegs installed. Talked to Hipshot today before ordering and they said the Ultra Lites are reversible. I told him it did not say that on their site and he is now going to add that info. Hopefully the tuners arrive tomorrow and I can take it with me to practice on Saturday. Really excited to hear this beast.
