1983 Peavey Patriot input

This thread reminded me that I have had Patriot bass hanging around for years. I bought it for my wife in the mid 80s when she decided to take up bass. Sadly, she didn't play very long. The bass kicked around for years and was used for a time by the bass player in my band when I was the guitar player and later replaced by a 62 RI Jazz.

Today I took the case out from the bottom of my case pile of 8 cases. Everything looked fine until...

...yikes!! The bass was stuck in the case!! Turns out the foam in the case had essentially disintergrated/melted and the bass was stuck in the case. When I pulled it out, the back was covered with this nasty, sticky black stuff. What a pain. After much futzing about, finally took some Murphy's Oil Soap to it and it came off. Gave the neck a bit of a tweak, adjusted action. Wow! What a great bass! I had forgotten. Really digging the pickup. Lot's of output, very throaty - more than typical P. Maybe candidate for Dark Star??

The same thing happened to the foam in my case, but luckily my bass wasn't in it! :)

It was one of my first basses as a youngster. I liked it but yearning for a different tone I took the Ferrite out and put it in a Seymour Duncan (the one with all the little switches) in a "bridge" position behind the Ferrite. It actually sounded really good! Problem was the bass was stolen from my music locker in high school. I've always wanted to find that bass. I loved it and everybody who played it loved that neck.

Buy it!

I pulled the patriot out a few days ago to show a friend and it had flatwound strings on it and for sitting there for almost 18 years didnt sound bad. Definately needs new strings and some neck work. Piece of my history.....the matching guitar dad had he gave to a young relative bout a year ago wish i had them both but memories live on and eqipment gets passed on. Great beginner bass. If anyone interested in the Patriot let me know a may be able to part with it. I now have 5 basses at my house and want a six string.

IT'S THE BIG HAPPY HOUR
