1985-86 Fender Performer Bass

I have one of these in white and am looking for a 2nd one, but the pricing is all over the place. How do you find fair pricing on used basses like these?

The prices on these have gotten ridiculous. I bought mine for $1200 4-5 years ago, now people are asking over $3000. I love these basses but I don't get those prices.
