I'm an '89, so I can and will say very nice-to both, especially together
I think the basic difference is that you get a bit more flexibility from the EQ because you can boost or cut mids as well. I don't know if the basic sound changes at all.
My Stingray is a 3 band, and I love the flexibility. Good score!
when did the stingrays switch over to the 3-band EQ, heel truss rod, and 6-bolt neck? yours might be one of the first!

The 6-bolt was halfway through 1990, my guess is that the 3-band is somewhere around there, and the truss rod...not a clue in the world. Probably about the same time is my guess.

Yes, I saw the trans blueburst StingRay at Bass NW and I would have killed for it if it was a 2 band eq.

the other doesn't look good with a clear pick guard.
