1993 MIM Fender Jazz - How Much?

A friend of mine at work has a 1993 MIM Jazz Bass in Candy Apple Red that he'd like to sell. I took a look at it and it has some GREAT selling points (light weight, feels great, straight neck, generally good condition - minus a large ding in the front), but it also has some major problems; neck/pickguard/control plate/neck pickup are seriously misaligned, the bridge pickup is hyper-microphonic, etc.

I was going to get it all set up and aligned and then help him sell it, but the microphonic pickup is a problem for him. It's so bad that the bass is almost unusable without replacing it. I'd like to make him an offer - knowing what's wrong and what it needs - and then use it as a beater/test-bed bass to modify. I've done TONS of mods to my own basses over the years, but I've got them all where I want them and don't want to mess with them just yet. This would be a fun project bass to try different pickups, hardware, etc, on. At least I'd know if I wanted to mod one of my other basses after testing on this one.

BTW - it also includes a 1993 Fender USA hardshell case. He bought it in college, but is not a bassist. After 18 years, he's ready to just get rid of it. Low-balling him is not an option. I want to be fair to him, but not *overly* fair...

So what do you think it might be worth?
