1st Gen Marcus Miller V7

Anyone own a 1st Gen Marcus Miller V7? I don't know anyone who owns one and have never seen one in the wild. Cuz of their low price point, I'm curious to read any reviews from anyone who has owned one for over a year. See( read) if they are holding up. Thanks.

I have 2, one fretted (#99, signed by Marcus!) and a fretless. As @BassmanM says, see the club thread. More info there than you can read in one weekend.

I’ve had mine well over 4 years now. Holding up fine. Never had to adjust the neck yet. Tuners and bridge adjust fine. I did have to have the original preamp replaced about a year into owning it but Sire took care of that and reimbursed me for the repair charges. Nothing but goodness ever since.

I've had to tweak the truss rod a couple of times, but only when changing strings to heavier gauges (so not unexpected). On the fretted, I run "uptuned" DR DDTs (meant for Deep DownTuning) to standard pitch, with a .145 B, so yeah, a little work on the truss rod wasn't a surprise at all.

Mine's a 10.2 pound 5er (ash body). The fretless 5 is about the same, but has the alder. Or maybe that's reversed, I forget. Still love 'em both (as well as the other 3 Sires I have). :cool::smug:

Yeah, mine is somewhere around the 10lb range too. IIRC, Sire started getting customer feedback about weights being too heavy and began to monitor the woods they used to start bringing the weight down. Not sure when they implemented that practice. If you buy one used, and depending on when it was made, you might get a heavier one.

Well Fender was the original, and yeah, Fender Js have always been (on average) on the heavy side (due to the size of the body). Sire started the weight screening at least a year or more back, maybe 2.

I got a parts bass several months ago with a first gen V7 neck. I guess I didn't know how much I liked 7.5 radius necks or this one is just especially awesome but it feels and plays great to me.

Being on a Warmoth dinky jazz body means it's a little lighter than your average Sire I'd guess. I like it so much I've been scouring Ebay looking to see if any of these necks pop up.

I have owned my v7 for nearly two years now. I highly recommend this bass if you are looking for an active Jazz on a budget. Both looks and sounds are phenomenal. My bass is super stable, truss rod does not require tweaking unless you put on different set of strings. It stays in tune for days, after hours of play, miles in a gigbag in the trunk, really I barely have to tune it. Mine is on the heavy side 9,7 lbs(4 string alder), but I guess that is what jazzbasses with their huge bodies are, at least it doesnt neckdive. Try one, get one, you wont regret.

I had early sire v7 ( with marcus signature on the plate and with gigbag included) and that was seriously one of best jazz basses l ever had. And l had them...a lot! Two other v7 jazz basses l had were newer models, still very good but not as that 1st. If you are lucky, you might find a great bass. And they wasn't that heavy at all.

I bought my V7 new, ordered directly from the Sire USA website, and it is and continues to be an awesome playing and sounding, trouble free bass.
Recently I was asked to play bass at a friends wedding. I sent three recorded versions of the song they want me to play, each with a different bass. Fender P Bass w/ flat wound strings, Sire V7 with GHS Pressurewounds, G&L M2500 Tribute with NYXL’s. I had them pick the sound they liked best for their song, a blind choice, and they picked the Sire V7 recording!

I’m fortunate to have three basses, each with its’ own good sound. Just sayin’ I don’t believe you will be disappointed with the Sire V7
