Greetings all. I just got my first Dan Electro Longhorn bass. Even though I'm supposed to be "thinning the herd" this puts me at somewhere at around 35 basses. Anyway if anyone recognizes and distinguishing characteristics on this bass that might give insight to its vintage and value it would be much appreciated. I'll get around to removing the neck and/or controls sometime this coming month, but until then it would be cool to get an idea exactly what it is and what it's worth. It belonged to a friend who passed away 2 years ago. His wife insisted on only taking $20 for it, as she wanted to keep it in the family, so I got her to let me pick up the tab for dinner and drinks as well. A killer deal nevertheless, which is this only reason I'm going in the wrong direction in reducing the size of the herd. I guess Longhorn is doubly appropriate in this case. It has a white vinyl-like like strip around the sides which isn't visible in the image and is separating in some places. Let me know if y'all have any thoughts on it. Thanks for the info. I'm usually not a fan of short scale basses but this plays pretty well. I have a 1966 Hofner Beatles bass I don't really enjoy playing. I only use it when I need that specific sound for a session or gig. I'm really a Fender or G&L guy, but this bass has a distinct tone. It makes me wanna start an all Danelectro /Slingerland/Farfisa
vintage Rock & Roll band. I still gotta clean it up and put new strings on it. I imagine it will play and sound even better. Since it was my late friends instrument I told his wife if I ever needed to sell it I would tell her first, although I doubt she'd want it back. Whenever my plans to semi retire to Europe materialize I'll have to let go of about 30 of my 35 basses, and that would be one of them. I'll let you know when that happens in the event you're still looking for one . BTW, on the subject of Fenders I have a 68 Telecaster bass. One of my 20 or so Fenders, half of which are vintage.
