The BMS driver I had in there for a while sounds killer for Old School standalone 1-15 happiness. But since I'm all about Nu-Metal and stuff, you'll never hear it that way!

1x15 w/ 6" driver like a modular Berg NV215 ??

By nu-metal you mean the 'metal cutting lathe patch' on your synth I'm thinking. In this case the new metal is actually cutter kerf ...

It sounds like I'm not alone in wondering about this kind of cab config.
So, as far as possibilities I read it like this:
Dr. Bass 1508
Carvin PA cab LS1503
LDS custom build
DYI (like AlexC)

Again, what I was thinking was really driven by reading Chef's posts about his 2 Mesa Diesel 1x15's. I'd like to go the Mesa route, but I just have not seen many (any) of the Diesel 1x15s for sale around here. Also, sealed vs ported is not a big deciding point either, its just that the Berg is sealed and that has got such rave reviews here. I know that the Mesa's are ported.
Dr. Bass 1508's - If I guy 2 of these for modularity, I could pay for a Berg NV215, and I really like the idea of the Berg. BTW, the weight or portability is not that big of a deal for me.
LDS - Same issue with the Dr Bass cabs above, and I'm a bit leery of LDS for some reason, despite all the positive noise that has been made here about Don's stuff.
Carvin LS's- I read that Boutique On a Budget thread (all of them!), but came away with some doubts about reliability as well as the sense that a number of folks that jumped on that bandwagon ended up upgrading some of the drivers to get the sound they really wanted; or several initial buyers dropped them after trying them out. Also, wasn't the point of those cabs to get the boutique "hi-fi" "full range" sound on the cheap ? That's not what I'm after at all. ... well cheap is good, but "hi-fi" tone is not the goal.
DYI - Just not going to happen with my less than zero wood butchering skills .. I need my fingers to play
Avatar - looked at these cabs and the reviews for them for a while. As they do not make 1x15's (except an older model I think), I don't think Avatar is what I'm after.
Any other ideas

Hey Paul - sounds like maybe you are starting to loose your high on the Mesa Scout12 combo + 115 ext cab combination ? I thought that was the complete deal for you - are you looking to replace it with something different now ?
Gee, no way brother ..not even close. I'm still totally happy with the Walkabout 12 + Scout 15 ext combination for my needs. In fact there was a very interesting thread here about the Walkabout passive mid control where much else was said about various ways to use the passive/active eq capability of the Walkabout. I followed some of the examples provided by other users and have found a few more sweet tone spots with this rig .. again, for my needs.
But, what prompted my posts here is that I also have a very cool Mesa Buster 200 head that I'd like to make part of another rig with some cab combination that I have described above ... updated - old school, like maybe the Bergantino NV215. Then I got reading a few posts by another Walkabout fan .. Chef, and it turns out he is using a set of Diesel 1x15's ... so one thing lead to another and I got to thinking about a modular Berg NV215 ... i.e. 2 1x15 + 6" mid driver. And thats why I posted this question.
I see you are still struggling with the Walkabout + extension sound issue. Perhaps it is just not for you or your gig. Have you looked at some of the super light amps like Markbass or EA, or perhaps using a great pre to drive a powered cab like an EA, or a Berg IP ?. I don't know, but there sure seems to be a lot of real killer lightweight (for the back problems) gear out there these days. There's got to be something that will fit you.
