Looked/searched around a bit before posting and see some prior threads in a similar vein, but not quite what I want to ask.
I am really interested in using an all tube head (like my Mesa Buster 200) to drive a new/old school cab like a Berg NV215. But after reading some threads here about modularity (particularly Chef's use of Mesa 1x15's with his Walkabout head) and the craziness of lugging a 2x15 cab in this day and age of lighter well designed gear, I got to thinking about whether or not you could find a sealed 1x15 with a 6" or so mid driver that would be like "1/2 a Berg" ??
I did see some posts about the Dr Bass 1508 cabs and I am aware of LDS custom builds, but are there other cabs avail in this kind of format.
Also, I would expect to get 2 of these cabs so I could use one or both depending on the gig. So, would there be any issues with using 2 cabs with mid drivers in them ?
I'm interested in what seems to be referred to on TB as new, or updated-old school tone; thumpy with plenty of low end (hence the 15's) solid low mids and good mid presence, but not a very "hi-fi" or tweet heavy, super clean sound. I do want tubey saturation/compression, even a bit of bloom, but not distortion or too much grind.
Besides the Buster, I would also want to drive these cabs with my Walkabout head.
So, anyone want to offer some view points on this ?
