2 1x15's or 1 6x10?

So right now I'm running an ampeg v4b reissue through a fender pro series 6x10 cabinet but I'm thinking about going with something easier to travel with for a cabinet. I' looking at some 1x15 cabs and am considering 2 of them so I can have the stack if I need it or split it for smaller gigs. I'e never really put much thought into speaker size and its effect on tone. Just looking for opinions based on personal preference, would you rather a 6x10, or 2 1x15 cabs, and why? I would prefer single 15's. I've never been comfortable with multiple 10 cabinets: Others far more technically fluent than myself could explain it, but for me, I hear an inconsistent sound field that I'm convinced is from the 'cross wash' of the multiple drivers. I've never heard anyone talk about it, and it's entirely possible it's just me. I've had two-cab 15 stacks before, and I would think the same thing applies, but it never bothered me with them.

From a practical standpoint, it's easier to travel with two 15 boxes than one 610. But it's really down to what you prefer.

2x15's will putout like 4x10's so you would need another 15 to have the same speaker area. But, it really depends on the 15's. I just built a BFM S15 cab and loaded it with a Eminence Kappalite 3015. It is the loudest single 15 I've ever played and 2 of these would be outrageous.

How wide is the V4b?

Two vertically stacked 25 lb. Revsound 103db 1x15 cabs should do it. 23" wide if you put them on their side. I'd get one with a tweeter.

Wouldn't it be nice if it were that simple: two 115's vs one 610, but no conclusions can be drawn with respect to maximum volume or tone. However, it is quite possible for two 115's to be louder than one 610. It just depends on the particular drivers (TS parameters) and the enclosure they are operated in. No doubt two 115's can offer excellent portability and flexibility (one for small gigs and two for larger gigs).

This what you are looking for. Sealed design works perfectly with tube amps.

There is no "sound" of a 10 or 15. Each cab is different.

How? I have 2 1x15's that weigh maybe 30lbs each. One in each hand, bass and the head over the back. One trip and not heavy. Can't get easier than that.

Two 1-15 cabs. I used to do so with a pair of Traynor YS-15s from the '60s that sounded killer with Delta Pro drivers in them.

These cabs are superb. Tight lows, lightweight, handle a heap of power and are loud too

I wonder what's up with the current TB trend of hate for 15's. I suspect FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt). Perhaps penis envy. Bro. Stumbo, have you ever noticed how all the cone area calculations are based on diameter, ignoring the fact that speaker cones are cone shaped? Well, area of a circle is much easier to calculate that area of a cone

Yep.

Btw, my rigs always had 15s.

Whenever we rent backline studios for our jam band, it's always 8s or 10s. It's all good. I even play an active bass!

Tube or SS, if it sounds good, it is good.
