2 basses - 1 color

I feel a bit juvenille even posting this, but do you guys have multiple basses of the same color?

I found a used bass I wanted but it is almost identical in appearance to a bass I already have. The rational side of me says I am buying this thing for its sound, not its looks. The other side of me feels like I will get weary of explaining to everyone why I have two identical looking basses.

Should I swap the pickguard and be done with it, or keep looking?

What color are we talking? If it's sunburst, or black, you're probably OK. If it's aqua blue, you would probably have to explain every show. But then again, who cares? If you like it, and it's a good deal, go for it.

I think you'll be just fine with a couple of white Fender basses. Heck most people won't even realize the difference. They will just think you have a backup of the same bass if you have them both on stage. I wouldn't stress over this. I'm assuming you are talking about a J and a P in Oly white with a tort guard. Check out my avatar. You KNOW I won't have a problem with that color scheme. ;) But if it bugs you that much, the pick guard idea isn't a bad one. I think white basses get transformed with a pick guard change more than any other color of bass. Cheers.

Buy what you like, I've got a MIA P, MIA J, MIA Deluxe J and MIJ P, all an aqua blue (or similar) color.
Why, because I like them and I personally feel no need to justify it to anyone.

I understand this sentiment completely. I recently had two basses built (Roscoe 6000 & 6039). They were twins in every way (same neck block even) except pups and one is a fretless version of the other.

I had major reservations about using the same top/back wood on both for the same reason you mentioned. So one came w/ Ziracote and one came w/ Bubinga. I even went as far as to request serial special serial numbers so I wouldn't be stuck w/ #6000 and #6001.

Just too gimmicky for my tastes. . . :smug:

Sometimes I GAS for a different color bass, but one I could keep different strings on. I have a black/rosewood American Standard P which I love. I really like white, so the big white pickguard makes it for me. Therefore, sometimes I just want to get another one in Oly white/rosewood!

My two CIJ 62 Reissues: Jazz & Precision - even first letter of the serial #'s match :p The jazz has Fralin PU's, CTS pots and cloth wiring, the P is getting the same treatment in a few weeks...BROTHERS! :bassist:

I have 3 white basses, 2 sunbursts and a natural. Those, along with black, are the colors I've found I don't get tired of looking at after a while. I obviously think it's fine to have multiple basses in the same color. What I think would border on strange is if every bass in someone's collection had to be the same color.
