2 ohm Capable Heads -- What's out there?

CIMG7547.jpg
I had one of these for 15 years until it was stolen out of my garage along with a nice Boogie 1x15. I was sad to lose it, but in a way happy that I would never have to pick it up again. That head weighed as much as a small car.

I've also had an iAmp 800. I don't think I've ever had an amp whose tone I liked better. However, I did not have a good experience running it at 2 ohms. I tried it at a few gigs and found the power amp limiter way too often. The EA amps' power limiter acts in what I think is a very ungraceful way - it seems to cut power entirely until the limited signal request subsides, after which the power returns not immediately. The upshot was about a 2-second bottom-just-fell-out effect every time it happened.

How about the Aguilar DB750 or a separates setup?

I'd recommend Carvin's BX1200 or the new BX1500.

While a lot of heads go down to 2 ohms, the two Carvin heads allow you to control the power sent to different cabs. So you could run one 8 ohm cab and one 4 ohm and not worry that one would be getting more power.

I will only use heads that go down to 2 ohm, but I love that my Carvin BX1200 allows me to utilize every cab I own, will own or build in just about any configuration I want, all while allowing me to balance their output (in addition to true bi-amping if so choosing).

Acoustic Control 370 and 320.

By the way - the current Ampeg SVT4-Pro is nolonger bridged at 2 ohms. It only does 4 now. The continued crapedization of the line.

The Acoustic of Guitar Center does NOT do 2 ohms into one cab!!! It is a lie - bridged it is 4. You need to see if the 2 ohm load is available to one speaker. The tricky types are using mirrors on the 2 ohm thing now.

Actually - the Acoustc 370 will run at 1.87 ohms all day and night.
