2 Ohm micro-amp recommendations

+1 for the Carvin BX500. It'll do 500 watts at 2 ohms. And it's 5.5 pounds!

You know, I have a great amp that does what I need it to do (Markbass LMIII). I have a backup amp that also does everything I need (GK 800RB). Yes this thread has me now GAS-ing for a Carvin BX700 and a TecAmp Puma 1000. I hate you guys.

Just don't sell them to get a Carvin, you'll be back soon enough.

It's not suggested for 2ohm use. People do it in the world, but Mesa frowns.

Yeah, I know all about that. And I think Mesa's recommendation against a 2ohm load is similar to a CAUTION: HOT label on a cup of coffee.

I went with the Carvin BX500. I didn't want to replace all my speakers yet, it was on sale, and it's lightweight and came with a free gig bag. I don't need a super-loud rig, but I did need enough headroom to play effectively with a drummer. Most of my gigs require a 1X12 at 200 watts -- that's quite enough, as I play mostly jazz with no drummer.

We'll see how the Carvin sounds with the two 1X12's on the gig soon. Lord knows it has enough knobs, switches and sliders to keep me busy until then....
