I started to reply and the computer ate the reply. Basically, Alembics have a different tonal control system. Each pickup has a low pass filter control. As you roll it down, it reduces the corner frequency from a high 6khz down to 350hz. So, like a regular tone control, it reduces highs, but instead of adjusting the level above a certain frequency, it actually lowers the highest frequency let through. Where it all gets interesting is the Q switch (and there's two of them, one for each pickup, hence 2 Q switch). The switch creates a peak at the rolloff frequency, so you can get a nice boost that's sweepable. It's a harder thing to describe than it is to actually use it.
