2 questions: rack storage/usage, cab-less usage

Hello,

I recently purchased an Ashdown ABM 500 RC EVO II, and due to lack of money now and a four-month trip to Europe in less than a month, I can't afford the cab I'd like to get (ABM 410). Anyway, I'm recording basslines for a friend in Boston (I'm in SD), and I'd like to use this amp...

Is it possible to use a head without a cab? It's solid state with a tube/solid state preamp, don't know if that makes a difference...

Also, second question:

Since I'll be gone for four months, what's the best way to store this medium-term? I'm planning on getting a rack flight case, is it best to just put it in that and call it good?

Also, is it ok to put items right on top of each other in a rack? Or is it better to leave a space between them for airflow's sake?

Thank you very much in advance, any help is much appreciated. I did a lot of searching on this forum and FAQs and couldn't really find the answers, but apologies if they're there and I missed them.

Thanks,

Kyle

Any OTL SS amp can be run without a load. If you still have the original bow the amp cam in store it in that. If not the rack case is fine. I always place my power amps in the lowest position with a ventilated panel above then the rest. Look for some "Humfrees" to mount your equipment.

Have a safe trip and watch out for them sexy european girls! ;)

"Output transformer-less". Typically an all-tube amp (meaning one with a tube power amplification section, not just tubes in the preamp) will have an output transformer, and there were also a couple of rare/obscure non-tube amps that had an output transformer; and amps with an output transformer must be operated only with a load like a speaker connected.

Since the vast majority of amps that have a solid state power section do not have an output transformer, they do not need to be connected to a speaker for safe operation.
