the action is 2 mm at the 12th and 3 at the 24th ( for the E string). Neck is dead flat.

A Cigar Box Guitar building friend of mine built me a 2 string bass a few years back, put a Chinabacker Neck pickup in it and it plays and sounds pretty nice! Pairs well with a 3 string guitar

Love it. Are they tuned to E and A?

I bought my little boy a Squier mini P for his birthday, but I think there is something to be said for starting them off with a bass with only one or two strings.

On mine, yes, it's tuned E/A... I could put Hipshot D-tuners on it, like Mickael Manring.
But the 1 string bass is nice for kids. It's already hard for them to put correctly their fingers on the fretboard and get a nice sound, without buzz. That's why I also have 1 string guitars in my class.

I play 2-string slide bass in my Morphine tribute band, called Buena Buena. I've used a modified Mustang, Gretsch Ultramatic and Squire Bronco basses. I prefer short scale for this. The 2 strings that I use are the D and G strings. The tuning Mark Sandman used on most Morphine songs was D and A. Buena and Radar are tuned to C and G. Super Sex is in A and A octave tuning. I play with a slide and have the action raised quite a bit with a cheap metal extender nut and a lot of height at the bridge. I play with a pick, and strum a lot of low power chords. My sax player plays double sax on some songs.

Not a household name in many countries, but Les Clay pool performs on his one string "Whamola" bass and also has a custom 3 string that he plays.
