Double Bass 2 Wizzy 10s or one m-line 12?

Folks, I know that more has been written in recent times on EA Wizzy cabs than everything else combined, but I can't face trawling through 50 pages of posts looking for opinions on my problem.

I have been trying to get my hands on a Wizzy 12 M-line but have had terrible supply problems to Australia. I have been borrowing a cab from a friend but he wants it back, so need to splash some cash NOW.

Do you think that two 10" will give an equivalent sound to one 12 m-line? I need the ability to go for the sound of 50s r'n'b records, ie not "my bass only louder" but much warmer and thumpier.

I am currently using a series 2 AI Contra with a crappy 15" extension cab and it is getting enough grunt - I was hoping the sophistication of the M-Line would make up for its smaller size.

Any thoughts, or has anyone actually A/B'd two 10s and one 12?

I have had them all in the same room at the same time. I've played a handfull of gigs with them both.

To my ear the M line wizzy 12 by itself has more low end extension and punch than two wizzy 10's.

Wizzy 10's together are still very bright and would be hard for me to do a rock gig with.

Jazz gigs and very cramped quarters are the strong suit of the little 10. Two together is pretty loud but you have to eq it quite a bit to get some hump in the rump.

If I had to buy one box for all my gigs today and couldn't get a VL208 I'd use an M line 12.

The M-line has more extension. but also more "thump". The Wizzy 10 is absolutely amazing at what it does, but the envelope of the M-line is exactly how I want the note to develop. (electric and upright equally)

I was pretty impressed (in the basement and in the practice room) with the low end output from two Wizzy 10's, but Phil has gigged with two Wizzy 10's and an M-line Wizzy (gee, I wonder where he got those.... :smug:) on upright, so I'd go with what he has to say.

FWIW, one Wizzy 10 and one M-line Wizzy sound pretty darned good together, too! :cool:

Phil,
You couldn't have said it any clearer. Sure is unfortunate that
EA is still prototyping the new version, if there is a new version, and
I hope there will be a new version.
