$400 will get you a great sounding rig. Check your Craigslist and Fleabay. As well, check your pawnshops and Goodwill. But I`m also curious...you`ve been playing for 7 years and you don`t have any idea at all what to buy ?

I really think waiting one or two more paychecks before getting the amp would be good.

But settling for a bleh amp... if you get a combo you're kinda stuck not being able to upgrade without replacing it all, so it can take a while before you can get what you'd really like. And the amp just isn't a great place to compromise, imo. cuz it's where your sound comes out.

Lot's of combo's have an external speaker adapter. These are crucial on combo's IMO, because it allows you to upgrade without having to replace everything at once.
