Hey people, I have recently seen that you can buy a one piece double basses from Alibaba for like $160-$200. Now obviously I wouldn't say that those are really quality, but I mean hey! That's pretty cheap for something you'd regularly pay thousands for, maybe like for a project or just something to have fun with.

...just something to have fun with.

You'd be better off with Log.

It's big. It's heavy. It's wood, too.

I wouldn't even burn it in my fireplace- gorilla glue is toxic when it burns. We've beat up on OP enough. In all seriousness- you're going to pay someone $500-$600 to get it to even play. Do yourself a favor- there are plenty of used playable uprights out there for $1200. Save a few extra bucks (BSO bass plus setup about $800) and get something that you can enjoy and always resell for what you paid.

Don't get ripped off. If it's too good to be true it is. Wait till you get around $1400 together and you'll be able to get something that will give you years of pleasure and retain it's value.

I'm going to go against the pack and say: buy it. After all, you've been sufficiently warned. Perhaps you can report back to us.

After all, it's extremely hard to make a dozen small pieces of wood sound good. Just ask any violin maker. It's harder still to make bigger pieces of wood sing. I know, it's hard to get one's head around that in this day and age of instant and cheap gratification, but physics are physics.

Yes, bargains are possible. But reality has a way of reasserting itself. Good luck on your journey.
