What's up TB? New here and I've been cruising these forums for a couple weeks getting ideas and information and I'm ready for some feedback. This seems like a real laid back community so I'll just jump in.
Background:
I'm 22 and have been playing guitar for 8 years. Never quite felt like it was my fit even though I am a pretty decent player. In January an old acquaintance of mine popped up on Facebook chat looking for a bass player. I told him that I had messed around on bass a few times but I was pretty much guitar-oriented. I did tell him that I wouldn't mind playing bass but it would have to be the right situation and I don't want to be a guitar player slinging a bass, I want to be an ACTUAL bass player if I'm gonna do it.
Fast forward to now and bass is my calling in music. I love it. I've always loved the Jazz Bass look and sound so I went for a Squier VM 5 string Jazz Bass after playing around on a lot of 5 strings. I love that bass but after 2 solid months with it, I noticed it was a bit too big for my small hands and it wasn't the right sound for the band I'm working with. It sounds great for everything else but I need my gear to work for the project that is my top priority. Figured out I needed/wanted a P-Bass and here I am.
I found a 2000 Periwinkle Purple MIM P-Bass on Seattle craigslist for $300 in an SKB. Had been sitting in a studio so while a little worn, it was in excellent shape. I plan on throwing a Quarter Pound in it and changing the white pickguard to a black one to make it a little more badass. Here's where I need help. I've always been a fan of upgrading the bridge on a $500+/sub-$1000 instrument. Especially on Fenders which have saddles that can move around from side to side. I don't necessarily want to drop $100+ on a bridge but I also don't want a stock replacement. I'm having trouble finding a bridge that I'm positive will work on an MIM not an MIA. I've seen Gotoh 201 mentioned?
Extra sustain and saddles that stay in place once they're set is what I'm looking for.
