2002 American standard

Hey TB, this is pretty much my first post here after lurking both ultimate-guitar and here. So yeah, Hi.

Anyway, I'm looking at getting a new bass and have narrowed it down to either a 2010 Fender American standard jazz for 1800 AUD with a case strap etc or a used 2002 American standard jazz for 1400 AUD with the case included. If i get the 2002 i'll probably buy a badass II and drill some new holes or a HMV so that the two basses have pretty much the same specs.

So, a 2010 fender american standard jazz bass for 1800 with case etc
or
a used 2002 American standard jazz for 1400 plus another 100 for the badass II (perhaps III)

Does anyone have any information about the 2002 american standards, eg. owned one or have the specs ( i can't find them anywhere), it's probably more logical to spend an extra 300 bucks to get a totally new 2010 model but maybe the 2002 models were especially good, I'm having a really hard time finding anything on them.

Also, the 2002 is in sonic blue which you can't get anymore and i know more than one person with a fetish for it and the 2010 is in olympic white.

Link to the 2002

Thanks

I never owned an '02, but I did have an '00 and an '04 American Series Jazz. (They were actually called "American Series" rather than "American Standard" from 2000 - 2007). They were both very nice basses. Never had a problem with either of them.

I currently have an '08 American Standard Jazz, and it might be my favorite of all the Jazzes I've owned. Probably a toss-up between it and my American Vintage '75 Reissue. Like many people have said in other threads, Fender seems to have "upped their game" with the '08 and newer Am. Stds. They're very good.

But I've gotta' say, that '02 in Daphne Blue (or whatever light blue that is) looks awesome. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Personally, I'd probably get the newer one if money isn't an object; but that's not a slam on the '02. Get whichever one floats your boat!

if you are gunna buy used id look for something cheaper than that. altho the colour is very appealing you can find american standard jazz basses for under 1000 USD, sometimes as low as 700 depending on the year. however the whole australia thing could be an issue

Guitar center in richmond but i've got a bit of a discount there.

It's 1950 at bass center i think but they're pretty friendly there and you could try mannys in north fitzroy they gave my friend an alright deal, i think it was 2500 for an american deluxe strat

EDIT: while we're at it, do you know any place that sells J-retro pre amps? the closest place i can find is in sydney

Hey Bass First, I want to thank you for suggesting Manny's in North Fitzroy. I'm starting to learn bass and thought I'd get a Squier Affinity Jazz to learn on for a year then move it on Ebay. They matched the cheapest online price, so I laid down a deposit for a metallic blue one similar in colour to my bass hero Herbie Flowers (who I met 25 years ago in Brisbane when he toured with Sky). Got it for $290 after S/H Affinity went for $260 on Ebay. People just don't do their research. So now I can talk to someone face to face if I have any problems. Very happy!
