2008 NFL Draft

I haven't decided on the Packers draft. I was a bit surprised that their first pick was a WR. That was one area they are pretty much set as long as Koren Robinson doesn't relapse. I guess it all remains to be seen.

I'm more surprised that they drafted 2 quarterbacks, especially Brohm in the second round. The Pack have long drafted backups that they eventually traded during the Favre era, but I was surprised to see them take one so high.

are you happy getting Brohm? I figured the Pack would be settled on Rodgers, guess it can't hurt to have more young depth at the position.

3 Centers, 2 TEs, 2 LB (outside and inside), 1 WR/KR, and a RB.

All in all I'm happy with the draft. Oline depth was a killer last year. With 4 able centers they should be fine. :D

The line is going to be Ugoh, Lilja, Saturday, Pollack, and Diem. Pollack and Jamey are penciled in as guards with Justice being the backup center.

The drafted TE's will probably spell the end of Morehead.

One of the LB's (Howard) is already penciled in for DE. Wheeler should be able to fight his way into the starting lineup with Bracket and Keiaho.

Garcon being the KR means T.J Rushing is probably gone or relegated to only nickel packages. Special teams/Kick Returner is the probably the only place he'll see the field with the WR depth that they have.

Kenton "Hands of Stone" Keith is dust in the wind. He was gone before his run in with the law, now he ought to pack his bags for Canada. Hart was a decent receiver out of the back field from what I could tell, he should be a good spell back.

Of the 9 picks, I see 2 that might make the starting rotation, Wheeler and Pollack.

Linebackers and cornerbacks - very much a needs-based draft. Due to their recent success in drafts and on the field (except for the last game of last season); there doesn't tend to be a lot of folks willing to criticize the picks. The common factor is that these guys all have speed to burn.

They drafted the QB from San Diego State - I figure Brady's job is safe but I'd be nervous if I was one of the current backup QBs.

I'm pretty happy with the Bears draft. I wish we took a QB in the later rounds and more OL depth, but besides that I'm very happy with who we got. We got some playmakers, filled needs on both sides of the ball, and got some decent value in later rounds.

Pretty psyched with the Giants. They got good value at positions they needed to fill. They drafted a very aggressive safety from Miami U in the first round and a good corner from USC in the second. Their secondary was their weak spot last year and it was addressed.

I was interested to see that QB Alex Brink of Washington State was drafted by Houston. He was the only college player in the state of Washington drafted, although there were a number of free agent signings.

There's plenty of competition in Houston, but Brink has real potential - he owns just about every QB record at "Quarterback U", including records set by Mark Rypien, Drew Bledsoe and Ryan Leaf. I'm hoping for good things for Brink.

There were four players from Massachusetts schools

Boston College had Ryan and Cherilus in the first round and a CB (Tribble) in the sixth round.

The surprise to me was my sister's alma mater Bentley College which is better known for turning out pro accountants had its first NFL draftee - Mackenzy Bernadeau, a 300 pound OG (wouldn't that be a great name for a hockey player?) who went to Carolina in the seventh round. He not only went to college in Waltham but is a graduate of Waltham High. He had a few Div 1-AA scholarship offers out of high school but I guess he wanted to play football and get a top-notch business education. He is a classic developmental pick. But with pro coaching and conditioning - a big, strong, smart kid like Bernadeau could do OK in the NFL.
