Cool, thanks for posting those pics. How did the cake taste? What was the event where you saw the cup and the cake?

Work bbq (Fox) & the cup is on tour through L.A. I was told it spends most of the year on tour not on display.

There's two Cups. The 'real' one goes on tour. The duplicate resides at the HHOF and is on display when the 'real' one isn't there.

Honestly, I'm not worries about how we're paying for it. Ticket prices were already going to make a 10-40% raise, depending on the section, over the next 5 years according to the season ticket information packet that came in the mail. We are also saving between $5-7 million without Tootoo and Suter's contracts on the books. Dumont and Ledba's buyouts which couple together for $3 million a year are both gone after this season as well.
In other news, we have apparently contacted Petr Sykora's agent. I'm not expecting a big splash from GMDP, but I fully expect another couple of low-key signings.
Again, I'm glad Weber stayed in Nashville. Partly because I didn't want the Flyers to have him, but also because I sincerely wish for the Predators to remain a competitive franchise. It is good for hockey.
Yeah, I think for the Wings it's a win-win. If the Flyers would have gotten him the Wings would have seen a lot less of him. And now the Preds have lot less flexibility under the cap and are under financial duress do the Flyers move. It may still end up like a Nash situation before its done. For the record, I don't like the way the Flyers approached it. Putting a financially troubled franchise in the position of losing a star by playing fast and lose with cap rules is a bit low class if you ask me. Although I probably would have applauded the Wings for doing it.
I do think the Blue Jackets GM was a bit of a D#*k for not taking the Red Wings offer of Franzen and Flipilla for Nash. He got a lot less from NY. I realize you don't want to trade stars inside your division, but sometimes you need to do the right thing for the franchise. Columbus is going to very bad for a very long time.

I think that makes it official, Holmgren is not going after anybody else until the trade deadline. The core and young guys are staying together for this season.
As for the Predators, I think they still have to get to the cap floor. I know their GM Poille was crowing about all the savings they got with getting rid of players but that means they now have to make that money up too and strange as it is Weber's cap hit is less than it was last year.

I second your opinion. Seems players have been going to the Rangers and their stats go in the tank. That team doesn't seem to gel too well except for diving in front of Lundquist to block shots.
Alexander Semin inks a one year $7 million contract with The Carolina Hurricanes. I don't follow the 'Canes too much, so I don't really have an opinion on what kind of impact he'll make, but I am surprised it took this long for him to find a team.

Remember when we had to wait for the paper or the Hockey News to print this stuff? Now it comes out before the ink dries on a guy's contract.
I can't believe he managed to swing $7M. He's got a crap-ton of talent, but it doesn't always seem to come out when it ought to. I'm really interested to see how his time there plays out, particularly since the Caps and 'Canes are division rivals.
I was actually hoping Semin would sign with the Pens, but there's no way they were offering him 7 mil. It will certainly be interesting to see how Carolina performs this year.

According to what I read, no other offer was even close, so he went there for the money, clearly.
Since he likes money so much, it's no wonder that every contract year, he performed great with the exception of last year. Based on that info, and the fact that his contract is just for one year, I'd say he'll give it his all, as much as he can do it.
Provided he has good chemistry with his teammates, he might have a good season.

The Staals, Jokinen, Skinner, Ruutuu and now Semin. Then, you have an above-average D and a solid goaltender to back you up. They could theoretically surprise some people, though only if there's chemistry and if they're spared of injuries to their top-6 as they have next to no depth.
