2012 NHL Offseason Thread

Basketball wouldn't be so bad if only the hip-hop "culture" that the NBA is drowning in (along with the posing and showing-off) would vanish. Now, they're even faking injuries like soccer a lot of the time. :(

Hockey is awesome, but I hate all the political crap that goes into it every 7 years! :(

I'm right there with you Strat-Mangler. I used to be a bigtime basketball fan, not at all anymore.

As for hockey....did anyone else watch the KHL game on ESPN3 the other day? Any college hockey fans? I'll be going to a bunch of Dartmouth games this year. Some kids games too.

That's my number one complaint about the sport. That and the fans that enjoy this game. You got all these thugs who can barely talk in interviews....compare that to the "thugs" in hockey who actually are gentlemen and can speak well....and ironically, they play one of the hardest, toughest games around...who are the real tough guys? Hockey players.

Hockey is just a classier sport. I also like it that it really has a lot in common with soccer, so it's easy for me to follow it. Hockey has non-stop action! Amazing fights! And it takes real skill to play. I have nothing but admiration for it.

I hear ya'. I'm originally from Western PA, but my wife grew up near Hershey. I went to a fair amount of Hershey Bears games in the '70s & early '80s. In the '60s, it was Johnstown Jets games. I grew up in Johnstown.

We'll see. Both sides are greedy.

The owners are probably easing up on the percentage because they've already collectively lost a lot of revenue and are thinking that 6 years of lowers revenue is better than losing a whole season's worth of revenue.

The players will probably ask for more than the owners already let go of ; the massive % rift in shared revenue *&* no more salary rollback for the players. BUT,... I'm sure the players will ask for more in spite of the owners having already given up on a lot.

Agreed, the PA seems a little more flexible under their new leadership, but its still a negotiation. I guess we can consider this a step forward in resolution.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... I was proven right.

When asked what he thought of the new proposal which I personally think is quite fair for the sport, here's his responses.

In essence, the proposal is now at 50/50 with no salary rollbacks for players... yet they want more. Much more.

What's amazing to me is the entirely lack of perspective on the situation. Every player in the AHL would kill to have a chance to BE in the NHL. Now, NHL players are being greedy for the sake of being greedy, as if being paid 7 million $/year to put a puck in a net isn't enough.

Gawd!!!...

One can only hope. Dying here.

Got into hockey through the now defunct tallahassee tigersharks (ECHL) and have loved it since. Wish we had a team again. That was many years ago.

Sorry....I'm a diehard (bandwagon, sandbagging, sell out, mullet loving, championship winning) Wings fan (since 97).

In the east I support the lightening as its the home (?) Team.....but I like the pens as well.

I'm this close to grabbing some tickets to an ECHL game... except the team here in Trenton is no longer affiliated with the Devils, but rather the Flyers :-/

I was expecting to go to a Trenton Devils game and found out they're the Titans now. Crazy.

BUT, I need my hockey, and the nearest AHL team is three hours away.
