2012 NHL Offseason Thread

I heard Ovechkin talking about how the lockout may last a year. He said that was fine since he would just go play in the KHL. Maybe the owners are failing to realize there are other premiere professional hockey leagues around the world these guys can go play in, and that many of them are from those leagues in the first place.

I still think the NLHPA will crumble at some point, but it doesn't feel to me like anytime soon. If they blow off the whole season, I'm not 100% positive I'll come back to the NHL as the same kind of fan I am now.

No face to face talks between the owners and players for one week. Seems to me like no one cares.

Money has a way of making people lose perspective.

Some/most of these people (players & owners) couldn't last a week doing a job at minimum wage.

They should be grateful to be in the positions they hold and split the difference on the financial gap that separates them.

I don't know about the players up there, but we've had really good luck with players being awesome in the community. Fisher, Legwand, Toots, Belak, Gill, and several others have done a lot of charity work here.

Gill grilled out in the parking lot of the BSP after his first practice with the team. Pretty much any fan that walked up was fed and sent away with an autograph.

We've even got a pair of game pucks, one from Mike Fisher and the other from a referee following a fight.

I'm a lot more likely to believe that the players want to play and care about the fans than the owners do.

Well, the last lockout, the players took a 20-25% pay cut. League revenue is going up, and the owners want the to take another pay cut?

I know there were other issues in play: restructuring, revenue sharing with small market clubs, luxury taxes on big spenders, a "soft cap," etc, but surely the owners don't think that they can pay the players less than what they are getting now. That's flat out robbery.

Yeah, how are these poor souls going to get by with the nasty owners paying them less than 50 grand per game? How are they supposed to feed their families on just a couple hundred thousand every two weeks?

Dire, all right. Dire.

Hahahahaha at LTL. I am a new fan to NASCAR. A bunch of my buddies have been teasing me about that..."so what did the driver just do? Oh, he turned left. Look...he turned left again. Wow cool, he just turned left. Here he comes, check it out he turned left just now".
