Well we're short 3 of our top 4 D men, Neal is suspended, and half of our bottom 6 forwards are out. We'll see! Pens have been playing pretty well despite all the injuries though.

Excellent performance from Fleury Friday night. It was especially needed since the Pens offense disappeared after the first period.

This is the best hockey fleury has ever played with the most consistency. I wanted him gone last off season but he has certainly made the case that he deserves another shot. Lots of NHL teams would kill to have him on their squad. Unfortunately we won't know if he's really gotten it together until the playoffs roll around. But I think the more defensive approach the Pens are taking, bringing in Martin as an assistant coach, getting a new goaltending coach and working with a sports psychologist are all contributing to helping Fleury play at the peak of his potential. Making athletic saves has never been an issue for him, but the improvement in composure has been really big this season.
Well, at least they took a stand on Thornton. If only they would've done that earlier this year with Emery or Kessel, etc. then maybe we'd be talking about hockey and not about a guy that left the ice on a stretcher.
Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Shanahan's picking and choosing where to take a stand. Out of all the people to take that job, it seemed he would be the one to straighten the discipline out. He hasn't gotten the job done, and, in my opinion, needs to go.

Agreed. Punishments have been inconsistent and borderline illogical since he took the position.
Orpik may end up missing the Olympics, thanks to Thornton. I don't have a whole lot of animosity towards Thornton since he is normally good about fighting. Too bad he lost his cool in the moment.

Ugh. Heat of the moment high hit by engelland. Kicked out of the game and won't be surprised if a suspension comes down considering what just happened with Neal. I don't think Engo was intentionally headhunting but you have to keep your elbows down...
As a Bruins fan I have to say Thorton's actions were way over the top and the suspension is just.

Three in a row for us. I'm glad I've been able to attend a few games this year. I'm hoping for the best in our games to come.
It seems to me, wins or not, we'll be in the GM hunt. Poile has stated that he may want to pursue less challenging endeavors, and by taking over USA hockey, his time here may be winding down.

There was a reason Phil Kessel didnt get a game or two suspension by Shanny. John Scott admitted to saying to him just before the puck drop "I'm going to jump you"
Im sorry but i dont care what profession your in...when a guy (basically a paid fighter) who is 6'8" 270lbs says something like that (to an elite smaller guy) and you have a "stick" in your hand. There isnt a person on the planet that would say...."HEY dont use that to defend yourself"

The STL/CLS was great as well. Sweet overtime game winner from Backes after an impressive play from Steen.
I believe Vancouver is still undefeated in December after lighting up the Bruins. Rask doesn't get chased often, so it looked like it was just going to be one of those nights for the Bruins. Eh, you can't win them all and Vancouver has been hot.

Ridiculous that he's appealing, but I wonder how much of it is him and how much of it is his agent/the NHLPA. Kind of disgusting that time in and time out the NHLPA seems more intent to support the players who get suspended more than the injured players on the receiving end of the suspension-worthy actions.
