2015 Gibson SG Bass...price doubled?

so i'm perusing the Link Removed as i do once a month, when i see their 2015 SG bass.

yes it has some upgrades but it's also double the price that they were asking last year.

what would have cost £650 before, is now £1,200! how do they justify such an outrageous price hike?

The SG Special and faded are under $800. They are the best buy on a American made bass that comes with a hard case.

well, even before this they were costly, but just about worth it if you got a good one.

here in the UK we can only really get hold of 2014 (which makes the faded a tricky buy), and even those have doubled in price.

many retailers that were selling '14 SG basses for £650 are now asking £1,100.

Gibson announced something like a 28% (maybe I heard 38%) increase in price for the new year. Or at least that's what I've been told.
Never been attracted to anything but the Thunderbird by them, but now its even further out of reach...

I am very well versed in the Gibson history.
Just because a bass is short scale does not mean it is a starter bass. A lot of great bassists have played quality short scales.
If you want a cheap short scale look at Squier or Epi.

Had my eye on a t-Bird for a while. It was listed at $1450 before the price hike. Now retailing at $2250!


Also, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure SG stands for So Groovy.

For non-U.S. members, the recent increase in the dollar to pound or Euro exchange rates probably also has something to do with the magnitude of the increase.

They did a run of them a couple years ago, then they did a run of V basses.

I didn't like the Silverburst all that much and I really really really dont like any of the "faded" finishes.

The GC Outlet here in Dallas has two gold Thunderbirds for $1299 each and an SG Heritage Cherry (real finish not faded) for $599.
