You like the MTD? A keeper?

Absolutely. It's an absolute monster and impeccably built. I bought it used but in pretty much new condition. Setup was fantastic already, I just raised the saddles on the B, E, and A strings a smidge as I'm a heavy-plucking fingerstyle guy and there was just a bit too much buzz happening. Now it's perfect.

I really like the asymmetrical neck. Took me absolutely no-time to get used to it, and I think it actually helps with my poor left-hand grip angle. I had a left elbow injury a week before my 18th birthday and can't rotate my hand to the "palms up" position correctly any more. This asymmetrical thing kinda pushes my thumb back another degree or two and gets me closer to "proper" I think.

The electronics are BEASTLY. Those humbuckers are monsters, and that preamp is dead silent while being stupid powerful and sharp. More meaty and grindy than my Sterling Ray35. Think Stingray, then add more clarity and depth. I feel like the Stingray punch happens more around some lower/central mids, while the Super 5 has more push in the REALLY low mids/lows. I really enjoy this bass!

Just two acquisitions this year. Which is a lot for me.

Musicvox MI6 20th Anniversary Bass VI (and, wait for it.... serial number 1). Limited edition run of 3 in green.

Squier P-J bass. Added Duncan QP pickups, aftermarket bridge, and new 500k pots, including a blend. My first Fender type bass. Comfortable, simple, and punchy sound. Not an investment piece - but a nice player.

Yeah, the bass was already usable when I got it and I had upgraded the pups, shielded the cavities and found a used, HSC for it, so it was that much better. I had/have other instruments to play, but it pissed me off all the same, because it filled a covered a certain tonal spread and because some jerk who wouldn't appreciate that probably just traded it off for a few hits of of meth. I filed a police report and kept an eye on CL, checked a few pawn shops etc. for awhile, but nothing ever came of any of that.

After a bit, you have have to let go of the anger you feel over such things or it only winds up compounding the injury to yourself. Plus I figure thieves eventually wind up getting what they deserve, whether you ever know about it or not: they wind up getting careless and are busted by the cops or steal from somebody who tracks them down and exacts their own form of "justice", personally. Thieves/druggies tend to exist in a sketchy world where senseless violence and retribution are commonplace

I literally took delivery of an Ibanez GSRM25 today lol... cheap, but easy to play and sounds pretty great. I'm honestly shocked at how nice it is build-wise for the price. But this year was mostly about resurrecting neglected existing instruments and rekindling my playing...

I decided I needed a 4-string again after 10+ years, so I went to GC and got a MIM 75th Anniversary Jazz. Great bass!

Sold my Fender Precision 5-string to pay for it. Then, last week real late at night, I saw this in the classifieds and had to have it. It's even better than I thought.

I decided I needed a 4-string again after 10+ years, so I went to GC and got a MIM 75th Anniversary Jazz. Great bass!

I like that combo of silver, the maple fretboard, and black pickguard with silver hardware. Looks super classy! Closest I have to a jazz atm is this dinky little Ibanez with J-style pickups and controls. My first bass when I started out was a bright fire engine red Mako j-bass copy with some kind of plywood body (which I discovered trying to sand off the paint...). It also had rusted pickup poles and a fretboard slowly removing itself from the neck lol...

TL;DR - pretty bass, I want one, and/or another jazz... XD
