I don't just listen to whole albums, I listen to entire discographies to get me through my work day.

First got into the habit when I was truck driving for a year. Less changing of CD's while driving.

Yesterday was first Mastodon to start the shift then finished it with The doors.

Today the plan to start with Puscifer and see where it goes from there.

I'm a vinyl player but even on Spotify I pick an album off my list and listen to it all the way though, never a playlist. I guess it's because that's how I grew up consuming music.

@OldDog52 I've never heard of the Alan Parsons Project. I'll give that one a go.

I bought a Gong vinyl album online and the seller threw in Alan Parsons' Edgar Allen Poe album for free - well worth a listen.

My teenage daughter is a Harry Styles fan (she turned me onto him, and I think he's great, too) and she saw an interview where he talked about the importance of the running order on albums. This was something she'd never considered, so I gave her a quick history lesson.
The next day, she came to me and proudly said, "I just listened to 'Fine Line' [his latest album] from beginning to end!"
Soon after that, I recommended Prince's astounding "Purple Rain" soundtrack, and the next time we drove somewhere, she surprised me by pulling it up on her phone, and we listened from beginning to end.
She's also building a collection of the Beatles' entire output, on vinyl.

That's fantastic! I have two teenage girls and they have introduced me to some pretty neat genres. I've always played lots of music and really loud as they grew up and I can tell it had influence on their choices. One is a metalhead/drum and bass fan and the other loves electroswing and jazz stuff.

I was actually doing something like this at the beginning of covid.
It kinda went away after I realized that I wasn't going back to work anytime soon and I started sleeping all the time.
Did manage to listen to quite a few classic albums in the run though...

I'm dedicating the time to listen to a full album every day through 2021.

I miss the days of buying an album popping on headphones cranking the volume and losing myself for a bit. I also feel bad for artists these days as they put so much work into writing an entire album but only having a couple tracks listened to, if they're lucky.

So far I've listened to 19. Start to finish no skipping tracks. I'll post the albums throughout the year in here. Feel free to make suggestions or join in!

I was having the same thoughts (no follow through, though) yesterday and pricing some TOOL and Perfect Circle albums. The stuff that is silly expensive that people are trying to capitalize from isn't going to make it into my shopping cart but, there was quite a bit that is still reasonably priced.

It dawned on me one day that my formative years of musical taste I was but a young pup and quality audio equipment was no where to be had in my world. I have listened to many albums over and over some in the hundreds... through crap headphones attached to cassette (the offspring smash and Greenway Doogie were the first albums I ever bought, followed by Filter Short Bus) or a skipping CD player. I had a crappy stereo cd player that probably cost 20 bucks. It wasn't until I was 15 and got a car and the whole fast and furious scene blew up and I installed an incredibly overkill system into a poop box car that I discovered the magic of bass.

Now that I'm older, and have much better home audio systems and I can crank whatever I want as loud as I want I've been going back to the stuff I loved as a kid and giving it another go. Melon Collie is one of my all time favorite albums. Corgan might not be the most palletable Rockstar but you cannot deny his genius.

@BOOG i went ahead and got youtube premium and music. I think I'm paying 15 bucks a month? But lemme tell ya... no ads is a beautiful thing. And I can get full albums and if there's an official video for a track it'll play it qhen the song is qued.

Also, I'm a major Tool fanboy.

Check out the album Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Alan Parsons. That's my favourite.

Great timing. Buddy of mine and I just started a monthly vinyl listening event and our inaugural session is tomorrow.

We will be alternating houses each month. The host provides turntable, comfy chairs, and cocktails. The visitor brings the music, and we listen all the way through the whole record.

I'm the host so no idea what we'll be listening to tomorrow, but the 'cocktail' will be a very special original drink of mine I call, "Bourbon on Ice".

I always listen to complete albums. It doesn't hurt that I'm into a lot of newer progressive rock and jazz and stuff, so the albums are put together quite meticulously and with a lot of thought put into the track order, and so reward front to back listens.

My latest acquisition has been Sonus Umbra-A Sky Full of Ghosts. Excellent, brand new album from a band that plays heavy, symphonic prog rock. Well produced and involving lyrics too.

That is a heck of an idea. I used to do that when I was in outdoor sales driving from appointment to appointment.

We have a couple of LPs out on iTunes and stuff, and after reviewing 19 pages of transactions, pretty much what you say about only getting play on a couple of tunes on a LP is spot on. While there are some things on our LPs that showed some decent work, my opinion is our LPs are somewhat inconstant. Like have you ever had an LP that you loved except a tune or two? Apparently, we have a tune or two that people like followed by I ain't dealing with the rest of it. LOL!
