20Hz Speaker Fluctuations ??

Hi.

My post may not been clear enough ;).

I got rid of the problem just like You described and was embarassed that I went all technical without remembering that I had the same problem, and had completely forgotten how I dealt with it.

My left slider could still be all the way down and the pot in the 31Hz mark, have to check that ;)

Regards
Sam

10? Are you using an active bass? I think many passive pickups only put out up to 1V. You'll have to check on that though.
I am running Active Bartolini's.I dont know what voltage that the Preamp puts out at max volume I came up with the 10 volts max from the Mackie Data sheet on the 1400i and it states 10 volts max input voltage I just wanted to get some idea of the voltages that we were working with.
I will definentaly try turning the Preamp eq to 31hz and cutting it there and then turn up the Bass knob and see what I get.
If this doesnt give me the results and the sound that Im looking for Im thinking about trying these out FMOD Crossover

Like someone else stated I could either just adapt from RCA to 1/4 or I could just hard wire the crossover inside of the Preamp to the output jack for a cleaner look.
Im glad that I noticed this right away before my speakers suffered any damage.

I had a little time to mess around with the settings on the GT Preamp and using the EQ set at 31hz full cut -15 I still had excessive Speaker travel on my Hughes Kettner (lacks Bottom) so from there I decided to try the High side adjustable crossover (this model has a Bi Amp option to run a high and Low pass line out to 2 different Amps) and if I turn the adjustable crossover down to lowest setting 100Hz and bump the Bass knob up 1 click I dont get any excessive speaker travel and it sounds very tight and responsive, with the 4x10 I dont hear a loss of anything at all infact it seems to gain mid bass a little.
Tommorrow I will hook up my 2x15 cab and see if there are enough low freq getting through to sound good.
The Adjustable crossover set at its lowest setting (100hz) sounds like 50hzish to come through nicely
with a 12db slope.
I left the EQ set to 31hz -15 just to take some pressure off of the crossover.
This would be a easy fix instead of going to a Amp with a low filter if it sounds good and goes low enough.

The only way to control these fluxuations is with a flux capacitor. Unfortunatly, it will only work in the 1.21 ghz range. :D
Yea I tied one of those too and it didnt work :p
I hooked up my BagEnd 4x10 and 2x15 Cab with the Preamp on the High pass side of the Bi Amp option and turned the crossover down to the lowest setting (100hz) and it sounds great plenty of bottom end nice and clear with very minimal speaker travel.Even though the crossover says 100hz and it is on a 12db slope there is obviously lower freq getting through.
I think that I will still try a pair of those Fmod Crossovers.
I then hooked up the GT preamp to my Mackie and played with the Adjustable low filter and anything below 45-50hz got muddy and started to get more speaker travel.
I really think that it is beneficial to cut out those unwanted lows that you dont need.
Thanks for all of the input.
Steve
