FWIW, and IMO you are better off having no sub than having a great big sub driver added on bottom that is not crossed over or specifically processed.

Frequency coupling and overlap is just mud waiting to happen.

That said, there is nothing like the addition of controlled low end where you can actually hear everything - full range - that you're doing. I have used and will own a 21" Bag End Infra. It reaches fundamentals that I play and build at, and presents it in a controlled and balanced manner.

how much did it cost you total to get your elf setup?

Currently I use my swr stuff for a grindy midrange, and then i use the qsc amp and the acme stuff for a clean bottom and top, but its still not as deadly as I wish it was

How much power do those bag end setups need to keep up with the rest of a band?

My old ELF setup was inadequate - I had the 2x12 and processor and wanted it to keep up with a full range 2x12. It couldn't.

The one I used at NAMM was a 2x10 full range top running 500 watts, with the 21" Infra running 95 Hz and down at 1000 watts. I had a 85 dB limitation and never could open 'er up so I can't say how it would keep up with a band. But it was damned impressive.

As a rule of thumb, twice the juice into a sub at minimum would be my suggestion, but make sure you limit its range. I'd almost have preferred to cut the sub off at 80 Hz-ish or maybe a bit lower - the 2x10 was doing just fine 'down low'.

The best way of going about it is adding what you're missing and not necessarily adding to what you've already got.

Actually more like 11.8cu.ft, tuned to 22Hz gives you a -3dB point of 33Hz .......
