21-inch sub?

i saw this while browsing on partsexpress, it looks like a great bang for the buck, does anyone have experiance using this or another 21-inch sub in a bass amp? will it be too "muddy?" 1000w rms, goes down to 22hz, has sensitivity of 107db and its only 200 bucks...hmm

Tempting isn't it? I saw those a while back and thought the same thing...

I know EV had 1 x 18 plans (TL505)... I wonder if you could just scale those up for a 1 x 21 box.

Or maybe a nice 2 x 21 cab? :D

I imagine Mr. Bill Fitzmaurice will have something informative to tell us about the pros / cons of a driver that big.

My take: If you feel like playing around with it, and have the capabilities of building a box for it, contact PE and get the full T/S specs and model it in WinISD. A ported box for that thing would be around 6 cubic feet minimum, I'm sure! It lists the freq response out to 4KHz; I doubt it goes that high with any appreciable output. For reggae/dub it could be very useful, depending on box requirements. I.E. if the box winds up being the size of an 8x10 fridge, but only does "whump-thump" then it's uses are really limited vs. its' "PITA factor." MHO.

"Size Matters" but not that much in speakers, where other things (x-max, cabinet design, etc) are more important. It's like "tone woods" in an instrument - they make a difference, but there are a lot of factors that make much more of a difference, enough that people can say "tone woods" (or "driver size") doesn't matter.

You can build a KILLIN' sub with a 10" driver if the cabinet is right. Conversely, just because a sub has a 21" driver doesn't mean it will sound good or have thunderous lows.

if i were to do this, i'd build a matching 8ohm 410 and use my same bi-amped rig...sorry left that out of my original post
