210+115 rigs

A bit off topic, but way back I got a slightly used GK 800rb paired with a SONIC FunkBass cab, 18-210. It works well with the bi-amp of the GK. I played many a gig with it and still jam with it to this day. Though it's not my main rig, I see no reason to let it go. But with out the GK bi-amp it probably would be useless.

EDIT: The 210 compartment is very small and sealed and doesn't carry much low end. May be why it works pretty well with the 18.

The Mesa cab to which you refer is called the Powerhouse 1000. And to the best of my knowledge, the only thing "monstrous" about it is its reputation for being monstrously bad.

I've read numerous references to it during the past few years. To the best of my recollection, not a single one of them was unreservedly favorable, and most of them specifically mentioned how unbalanced the cab sounds, due to the power-handling mismatch between the single 15-inch driver, and the four (4) 10-inch drivers.

Apparently I have missed something. What effect does a "power-handling mismatch" have on the sound of a cabinet ?

I have a Unique setup. I use a Hartke LH1000 into an Avatar B115 and a B210. I run it in Dual Parallel Mode: 2 x 545 watts @ 2 ohms. I usually keep the Balance Knob centered. It sounds fantastic once EQ is figured out for the room. I would love to have a second B210 instead but I'm happy with it.

Reaching out to those who use a 210+115 cab rig, I have been thinking about having this config be my next cab setup. What do you like about the setup? Now many would say just get 2 115's or 2 210's, however I am curious to the 210+115 setup so please keep that in mind when voicing your opinions.

If you want to try it for tone and/or looks, then try it. A good number of guys think it's a great setup. You might love it. Could be the best thing since sliced bread. Sure makes tons more sense than a 410/115.

Still, even though a 210/115 pairing might sound really good to you, the odds are pretty strong that you'd like the sound of a 2x115 or 2x210 even more.

Regardless, after you go one way or the other, report back with your findings :bassist: .

Ampeg and Fender both built them at one point. Peavey made one with an 18 and two 10s (the 1810) and one with two 18s and two 10s (the 1820).

No the 3620 I believe is the two 18 two 10 cab.
The 1810 and 1820 were the same set up of two 10s one 18
but I think the 1820 (or the other way around 1810 :hmm:) was a little smaller and a bit more portable. I used to have two :hmm:

I have a Carvin Cyclops cab, 0ne 15 two 8s and a horn.
It's run bi-amped with a BX1500 Carvin bi-ampable head.
Sounds good to me.
