I need your advice today, about modifying a closed 212 guitar cab to a bass cab.
I know that a lot of threads have been dealing with this kind of design, and I almost spent 2 days reading them.
I already have a pair of Eminence Beta 12a, and I’d like to approach Kringle77 (Chris Cole) sealed 212 design, but I hesitate to port the cab for extended bass response. Before drilling irreversible holes, I need some informations.
The internal volume is 95 liters (3,35 cubic feet), and if kept sealed, no problem about fully sealing it and adding bracing.
But how would it compare to the same cab volume, but ported, volume wise ? What about efficiency ? Can I compensate with EQ the bass response profile of the sealed version ?
What would be the ideal tuning frequency if ported (Fs is 47Hz). I don’t need big big lows, and want to keep a decent power handling. Should I create two chambers (which would allow me to respect the Eminence design of the small vented bass cabinet, with tuning at 56 Hz for about 1.9 cubic feet per driver ) and add some rigidity?
I have two amps, an old and low powered Peavey Centurion Mk3, 140w at 4 ohms, and a Harley Benton that can deliver 600w.
So many questions, and the more I read on Talkbass, the less I know...sorry to ask that much.
