2x10 with a 2x12?

Buying a new avatar cab tomorrow to add to my current setup that uses a 2x10. has anyone got any experience with the 2x10 with a 2x12 setup? my other option is adding a 4x10. i play in a rock group at the moment running against two guitarists with tube marshall half stacks. obviously i will use my ears when testing these cabs out but i wont be able to hear them in my band setting till after the purchase so i would like to hear from anyone with experience with either of these setups and how they compare to eachother tonally and as far as volume goes.

I have been using the Avatar 210/212 set-up at outside gigs for a few months now. I recommend this set-up to you, Very good lows and highs plus extremely punchy. You will be satisfied, I know I am.

that sounds great to me. i will keep using my eden 2x10xst in the rig which is tuned a bit lower than the avatar i think. but i will a/b this rig option with the eden 2x10 and the avatar 2x10 to compare that. thanks for the input

Mixing won't do anything terrible and it may work, but as rule of thumb it's better to buy another cab of the same type. So get another (Eden?) 210 and stack vertically as well. It will louder and sound lower. Great!

ideally i would purchase another eden cab but as things are at the moment financing rules out the eden cabs to me. from what i have read the avatar cabs are very good quality for their price so im going to try them out. in an ideal world i would have two eden 4x10s (and a larger car)

jordie65, I can't comment on the 2x12 but I recently purchased the Avater 2x10 NEO and the 1x12 Delta LF. I went with the Delta LF on the 1x12 as it has a higher power rating and seemed beefier than the NEO 1x12 option. The 1x12 has more focused mid to it than the 2x10 which sounds deeper to my ears, but together they pair up very well. I feel like I get a more focused sound with this setup than when I pair the Avatar 2x10 with the 1x15 cabinet I have. I think you'll be just fine with the 2x10 and 2x12 combo and should help you cut through. I would have gone with the NEO 2x12 option as well but I was after portability. Then again, the NEO only weighs 10lbs more than the 1x12 Delta LF.

Hey, that was my plan! I'm happy to see someone using the cab combination I'm thinking of. I have MB LMIII and a MB NY121 cab for acoustic gigs. To make my rig something usable with my rock band I want to add it a 2X10. This way I'll have 3 different (all portable) combinations to carry according to the loudness of my gig. But I can't understand why it's not that popular among bass players (1X12 +2X10).

really? I had 2x12 and 4x10 Neo Cabs and the 410 seemed to blow the 212 away.

But back to the OP, I liked the sound of the 212/410 setup, but at higher volumes the 410 would overpower the 212 (at least in my experience). I've never heard one personally, but from my experience with my setup, as well as what ive read elsewhere on the forum, 210/212 is a nice sounding setup.

I just picked up a Genz Benz Uber 212t Monday and ran it along with both my Avatar B410 NEO and my Carvin BRX 10.2 NEO cabs.

In my case the Uber is so much more efficient that I might as well not even bother with the Carvin 210 cab. The 12's in the Uber are so punchy they overpower the two 10's in the Carvin. For me it would be like hauling another 40 pounds of gear that I can't hear when I use the two. Now if I needed to toss a small cab on the other side of the stage, then the Carvin makes sense.

I also ran the Uber with my Avatar B410 NEO together with my Genz GBE1200 for 1200 watts @ 2 OHMS. That IS a big huge sound and you can hear the difference. However with both cabs side by side and sitting in front center of the cabs, the edge again goes to the Uber 212. It has a more up front low mid punch and growl that is filled in by the smoother lows of the B410. I would imagine that stacked, the B410 on top would sound a little more upfront.

I've also used the B410 with the Carvin on top and it sounds good but the edge in that setup goes to the B410 as it's just way more efficient.

The Carvin by itself works for me when I use my Genz Neo-Pak with it for a small portable rig for smaller gigs with great PA support or practice. It kicks butt for that.

I used to run an Avatar 212 and a trace 210 biamped, with the lows+mids thru the 212 pretty clean and the mids+highs thru the 210 kind of dirty...sounded great especially since I could control the mix of clean and dirty.

I also used the 212 stand alone for a while but then went to a trace 410, I didn't think the 212 had enough high mids-highs on it's own
