The SuperGlue gel I used said it is good for wood to metal, and it seems to be holding well after several hours.

What kind of glue did the luthiers recommend?

Never had a reply from the one I contacted. But I didn't expect to get one, anyway!

I used super glue on my JC, not sure how long it has lasted. Had the bass for two years after I did it and then moved it on. It will be fine with the super glue forget about it and play the damn thing!!!

I just repaired this problem myself. I used Titebond glue, which is pretty close to industry standard for luthiers. I wouldn't use Superglue, because when you reinsert the bridge inserts some glue is likely to squirt out. If it's Titebond, you will have a few minutes to remove it but if it's Superglue it will bond to to the finish almost instantly and you will be screwed. No pun intended.
