TB member mikeowen17’s take on Pete Gabriel’s Big Time. Which as we all know featured Mr Levin on bass .Levin fingered the notes whilst drummer Jerome Marotta tapped the strings with the drum sticks.

That’s not any old slap dash 3 string modded bass mikeowen17 is playing. It was a custom built EBMM Stingray made for Jason Newsted. He originally put it up for sale in his Reverb store in 2024 1990s Music Man Stingray 3 string Bass Owned by Jason Newsted | Reverb Australia
He was thinking someone interested in it could do slide bass on it or something

I found this thread while looking at Loogs to do experiments with. Finding cheap ones, like under $50, is difficult. That's about what they're worth IMHO.

The Maurache Basse looks really nice in that link. Bit unsure what the description means when it says guitar strings used. Maybe for the higher octave of each string pair. The tunings of CGC or DAD are akin to Ni Agari ( 2 up) tuning on the Shamisen, Root 5th Octave.
The Greek Trichordo Bazouki with the 3 string pairs like that Marauche Basse, is typically tuned Root 5th Octave DAD as well
This Danish bass player, from one of Denmark's biggest and most popular rock bands "D.A.D", or "Disneyland After Dark", as they originally was called, only needs 2 strings:

Yeh he's pretty much an icon of the 2 string bass. He gets the job done for sure. Flamboyant chap
Done with my Loog adventures, made one a duclimer, the other a Thai Phin. They're both super fun and useful too, and for sale
You've all inspired me to remove a string from my stick bass (the one in my profile pic). It was made with a plank of wood found at a demolition site and was never really wide enough for 4 strings in the first place. Piezo pickup should be fine as is but I'll have to fashion a new bridge and nut for it.
