The answer is black. But it isn't an option, so I picked tort.

I would also make it single ply, but that is even farther outside of the box of this poll.

I like Gold Anodized, but only with a maple board.
Here's a bit of a twist. I have an American Special P-Bass in Honeyburst/Maple.

I like Gold Anodized also, on a 2TSB and on honey/amber clear finishes. Looks great on yours! I tried it on my Natural finish Precision, though, and it's just too monochrome.

I had previously tried it with TORT and Black.

The tort looked awful to me, and the black was too cliche (many (most?) Fender naturals come that way). I want it to look like the "built" or "modded" bass it is. I do wish I could find a true (not plastic) gold anodized PG for my Mustang, pictured above. 3 Tone Pickguard color
Even with the rosewood fretboard.

I actually think the gold anodized looks sweet on your Natural/Maple P/J! But I understand your reluctance. I had a Natural/maple '75 P. I stuck with the black guard on that one.

Depends on the burst finish is it very reddish or is it very yellowish? Reddish I say white, it emphasizes how white the pickguard is, I’m currently making this decision myself and as a painter it’s been rough lol, I got a tort Sabre pickguard and tried it didn’t like it, tried a pearl blue, if I had a redder tort it might work!

Both my '78 Fender P-Bass and it's "mini-Me" Warmoth Mini-Precision Bass clone, have a Cream/Black/Cream pickguard sitting on their Nitro 3TB finish. The original black one on the Fender was replaced (and carefully stored away) because it was cracked. I always thought thay black, on that finish, made for a kinda... gloomy... looking bass. So, I replaced it with a factory C/B/C one. IMO, it's a warmer look than White, and goes better with the 3TB finish. White just looks like a refrigerator; and, as for the Tort? Sorry; AFAIC, tort is for nerd glasses; your grandmother's hairbrush; and the scales on my very old Camillus "Muskrat" pattern pocketknife...
