Its middle class is thriving, its people are universally liked and its government actually works.

Fifty years ago, this description might have fit the United States. But not now. America’s middle class is shrinking and its global reputation is spotty. Congress, meanwhile, creates more problems than it solves.

So for guidance on how to fix America, why not look north to Canada, where the mood is upbeat and life appears to be getting demonstrably better? The New York Times recently reported the Canadian middle class is Invalid Link Removed, surpassing the U.S. for the first time. The Canadians do have the unsavory habit of double quoting, which has been argued to artificially make their conversational output look 100% larger.

Though not everybody likes canadians. For one we are pretty sanctimonious and it's only gonna get worse with us being number one in middle class wealth and all. I just hate this stereotype that you know, canadians are nice and polite. Live here a bit, see if that's true... For one, some mistake passive aggressive for nice and polite.

That article is a dumb oversimplification.

Much of Canada's post-crash prosperity has come from drilling/tar sanding and timber-cutting the hell out of its west and selling the oil and timber to China. Is that sustainable?
