Have done some more work.

I have routed out the slot for the bridge and the tuner, and have glued the body to the neck.

I use wooden pins to hold the body in place while gluing.

Tomorrow I will plan down the body so there wil be room for the pickup I will make. The pickup will be a wooden "button" and using a 4 mm screw and a rare-earth magnet.

Have planed the body. Here is a picture of the tuning mekanism, the "button" for the pickup. Just test fited he string on. I am allso trying out where to place the volume controll.

Working on the cavity for the Jack insert.

First using a slightly larger bit for making the groove for the cover:

Then drilling the smaller hole:

Have drilled the hole for the Jack connector (had to file a bit of it to make it fit):

And with the cover, just pressfited. Maybe I do not need magnets to hold it in place....

Mixing rosewood with epoxy to make the markers for the "frets". There will be bigger markings for the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th etc. The 12th will have a equaly big mark, but with a white plastic dot in the middle.

A bit more work. Have rounded of the neck with my router, a 3/4 inch roundower bit:

Then it was time to work on the folding upper horn.
First cutting on the bandsaw at work (all time bad photo, and I know there are a few in this thread):

After a bit of sanding and trying out I think this will be the position for the horn. Will cut just where the paper is, maybe making it a bit longer ;)

One quick question. I have not decided how to finish this build.
I am thinking of clear lacquer or Danish oil. Have newer worked with Danish oil and are a bit curios how the finish will be. Is it much work? Can I use it for the fingerboard aswell? I will be using round wounded strings, or should I buy flatwounded?

I've use Danish Oil to refinish a Ukulele that had a poorly applied satin finish. Sanded it to bare wood then applied 4 coats of Danish Oil. The finish is a little slow drying (one coat per evening), but it is very simple and forgiving to apply. It produces a durable light golden finish. It's been on the instrument for about 5 years and doesn't show any unusual wear. But... I'm not sure how well it will stand up to a round wound bass string. I'd recommend using a flat wound string.

This is a very interesting build and has me thinking of building a 1 or 2 string variation.

I will make a 2 string version after finishing the 4 builds I'm doing now (maybe I'll make a headless neck for making a Headless Strat bass like someone had here just resently)

I have been reading a bit more about finishing fingerboards, I think I will use danish oil for the rest.

Ok, I have sanded he wood down to 400 grid and started to do the finish. Superglue on the fingerboard. Have put on 5-6 layers now. Next sand down as fine as I need.
The body and arm I was thinking of finish with Danish oil, but I could not get it here... Sooo I found some floor laquer in the basement and was thinking, it will protect he wood quite good. So I am trying it out at the folding upper horn. If it do not work out I'll sand it out and order some Danish oil.

Anybody tried finishing a bass with floor laquer? Any suggestions? I am going for a semi gloss finish.

Sanded down the fingerboard. I think it is ok. Sanded down to 800. Will put the finish on the neck before I sand the fingerboard down to 1200 grid. Have started puting on the laquer on the body. I'm dooing it with a brush so I guess it will be some sanding later on then ;)

Can not wait to see this one finished!

Not that anybody care;) but I'm finished with the clear coating. Will wait some days before sanding. Still have to make the pickup.

I have already planned 2 two stringers in the same shape, one with a single P-bass pickup and another with 2 P- bass pickups and a 3 way switch for paralelle, series and single wireing. Will be fun. One of them are ordered from a studio :) and a fretted 1 stringer. Will be fun.. The one stringer I plan on making a bit thicker body (30 mm) and buy a syncobass pickup. The 2 stringers will get a thicker neck, and regular machine heads...

I think Syncobass still are in production, the webpage is still running. I have used the pickups on another project, I liked the sound wery much! But those where wired in series, have not tryed only one of those. The ones I have made are a bit weak on sound, but if I run it througha boost pedal it is ok (or turn up the volume).

Will report when I try. Do not know if I will make a thread on the new basses...

Allmost done. Have mounted the bass, but without electronic. Some minor issues and I'm done :)

The upperhorn need some adjustment, the strapholders have to be mounted and mahe the pickup and solder the elecronics...
