I am considering one/two unit(s) for live sound monitors for sure, and maybe soon after if I like it for mains ... although I have been searching/reading, this is still foreign territory for me having no experience, so please share your preferrences between a Rane ME30, and DBX 131/231's (based on performance, operation and reliability) ... I will be buying used ... thank you!

Personally, I'd go with the Rane.. but I own 2 of the DBX 231's that I use(d) on monitors...
I also have a Driverack in the amp rack, but do not use the 31-band EQ in it.. it's flat.
The 231's are/were for the 4 monitor mixes I used to run. They did a good job for the price. Are there better out there.. sure.. but budget is budget.
Now, my 16.4.2 console has 6 AUX sends (for 6 monitor mixes) and I can put a 31-band EQ on each from within the console, so the 231's are not seeing much use.

either one would do, but what you want in this kind of range is an ME30B, the rane version with true active XLR balanced ins and outs.
you might find the dual-15 version fine as well, as long as you look for the "B" (active balanced) ranes.

I may hate myself in the morning... old Peavey Q series with the FLS lights and long throw faders. When I sold off all my analog stuff I kept a dual 15 band. It's a decent unit and I actually like the FLS system.

It's a dual channel in one chassis. I run all the exact model monitors and they are usually just feet apart so... one slider, two channels adjusted. Less rack room. I have 2 of those (for 4 channels of monitors) and their big brother (2sp) for Mains.

i can see that for L/R stereo mains, but i'd never try to do that with separate wedge mixes! i'd rather have a pair of dual 15-band EQs for the 4 mixes, at least that takes up the same rack space while allowing for actual separate adjustment.
after all, the monitor boxes may be the same, but the people in front of them, the instruments they're playing and the mixes they need are not.

I'll give you that. However, for as many years as I've been doing this, I've never run into someone who needed a different eq setting. Just lucky, I guess.
Um, incredibly so... This is one of the things you'll love about your new 1608... Carry the iPad up to a mic, crank it up until feed back, adjust the EQ, crank, adjust, cup the mic, do what you can to provoke it... until your monitor is so freakin' loud... Move on to the next ... Now you can provide a monitor mix that will pummel if necessary... And you never left the mic...
