$30 unbranded bass necks from eBay?

Well... I may have done something stupid on ebay myself. Take a look at this, a P-bass for $68:

How can lose on that deal? You not only get a yellow jazz bass guitar, but two tools and a power wire (whatever that is). Wait a minute, it looks suspiciously like a natural precision bass guitar. Sorry, better luck next time.

Hey, remember when we were.all fapping about how great the Sterling SUB was?....me included?.. yeah, I was ALL ABOUT that thing until a string broke and all the others went seriously flat. Usually I can get through a song if there's breakage because I know the fretboard well enough but oooohhhh no....not with this axe!
So when I see a $30 bass neck, I think "hey! I have one of those already!..."

I'm not sure I see your point. People are still "fapping" about the Sub regardless of the fact that yours has problems, which sounds more like a string issue anyway.

If you go 4-5 frets back down the neck you can see the ends on a couple of the frets show a gap.

I reviewed the px and see what looks like gaps under some, too.

I would be a cool bass for theatrics, pour a little lighter fluid on it, light it and play it while it is on fire. Make sure you have over spray so you can light either the guitarist or drummer on fire as well.

i see a topside hole leading into darkness, and zero mention of a trussrod in the description.

Yeah, I noticed no mention of a truss rod, but saw the hole- could be cosmetic?

I read it to mean that when one string broke and the neck had less tension on it, that the neck straightened out and the strings went flat against the frets... could be wrong.

I had one of those necks from that exact same seller in maple. It was OK, it had a few bad frets on the 15-17th A and D strings. It was a back-up, so I just lived with it. It fit perfectly on a Squier VM body I got off ebay.

Cheap doesn't mean bad ... cheap means inexpensive labor and less quality control ... Those necks are probably fine, but may need a little fret leveling and fret dressing.

You must have gotten a dud. Have had mine for several years now and not a single issue. But it could be a string problem.

It sounds like you had the calculation right but were off by one order of magnitude. That's not too bad. Still wrong, but it means you were almost there. If I was grading a math paper I'd give partial credit .

I bought a neck on ebay for 50 with tuners and string tree and it turned out to be amazing. All it needed was a little filing on the fret ends but Hey! Even high end Warmoths need fret dressing.
This neck probably needs fretwork and it would be a good neck to practice on. I might get one.

Red star is just numbers range of transactions (blue gold green red ) - I have a red star and never had anything but 100% perfect FB

If it's on Ebay for $30 then the seller must have gotten it for no more than $15 - As Ebay is mostly
end of chain sellers ( I believe I am in the minority there , being a manufacturer / seller in my mom n pop nano business)
Even with sweatshop labor and CNC turning out a neck for $15 wholesale is amazing. (amazing to be any good)
