I have an SWR LA-8. About as tiny as you can get. The speaker is a bit thin even for acoustic gigs, but strictly as a practice amp it can't be beat. I carry it in the trunk with teh big SWR, and if worst comes to worst I can put it through the PA as a monitor.

i was wondering...
anyone have any recommendations for a nice sounding, very small combo? like, 30 watts or less? small, portable, lightweight... mainly for practice, but that might transfer well as a recording amp?
i heard the dude from oingo boingo used a pignose hog 30 in the studio... which is what got me asking this question in the first place.

Roland Cube 30 fits the bill. Hog 30 sounds rather poor imo.

++1 on the Trace Elliott Boxer 30. I found one locally in excellent shape for $200.

I'm not really sure about new combos in that power/size range. If you're looking to record with it later, that might require more attention to DI and EQ capabilities.

I think mine new about 6 years ago was $350. That seems like a good price. This little amp still surprises me. It sounds really terriffic and has significantly more volume and projection than the "30 watt" specification would lead you to believe. I think the single 10" speaker is a Celestion.
