$300 on an amp

I need a new bass amp, this will be the first one I have bought as I am currently using the one which was bundled with the bass (not great). I think I can just stretch to $300 (£200), and I have been looking around and have seen the Gallien-Krueger backline 112 for this.

I am looking to use it as a practice amp, and also for gigging in small venues like pubs, small halls etc. Has anybody had any experience with this amp?

Also if you think this amp is not worth it could you suggest some which are roughly the same price.

Sorry, I might not have been clear, I want to get a combo, as I don't think i can get a good enough head and cabinet yet.

If you are in the UK (judging by the £200), don't be asking for a $300 amp, values really dont transfer at the exchange rate.

I think you would stuggle to gig with that GK 112 combo, but it depends, what kind of gigging are you going to do ?

You may be able to get a pretty decent peavey setup for that, last year saw a Peavey Nitrobass head (maybe delta bass) with a 2x10 and 1x15 cab go for ~£180. Tho that was a real steal of a deal. (also picked up my 215 for a nice £75, so deals are to be had).

Not sure where you're located but the Chicago Craigs list has an Eden Nemesis 4x10 combo for less than $300.

Great beginner amp IMO.

I am in the uk yes, so £200 is the benchmark.

In concern to the gigging, maybe some pubs, and possibly small halls, playing rockish/indie stuff, foo fighters, arctic monkeys, you me at six, reef etc so nothing too heavy.

I think you could probably get something like a second hand Ashdown MAG combo for £200 and that would suit your needs nicely.

Maybe not the best sounding amp, but you won't get anything amazing sounding in your price range. 150watts, 4x10. £50 buy it now ...

That would give you something giggable, and leave you to save a bit more cash for if you want a better setup.

I have not heard them myself, but the new acoustic combos are said to be great and resonable. If i was in the market for a new amp, I would check them out for sure.
